Our Mission
Passionately caring for people and pets presents challenges and creates issues
that affect our lives.
With more awareness of how our state of mind is fundamental to our experience, we can enjoy a healthier, happier life with less stress, and more freedom and clarity.
Feeding the Phoenix helps people who look after people look after their lives too.
Why we do what we do
Compassion Killed the Vet?
Whilst compassion in common understanding is seen as being kind and helpful, there is much more to it.
There are potentially harmful side effects which cause vicarious trauma in clinicians, carers, leaders and managers, and aspects that aren’t helpful to the client, patient or team.
Perhaps the way we use compassion is the problem?
If we changed our use of compassion, we wouldn’t create the devastating life changing symptoms known as compassion fatigue, or vicarious trauma, which is a version of PTSD.
What if there were a better way of being caring, kind and supportive that is easier, enjoyable, and not harmful even in the most difficult of situations, and also more beneficial for the client, patient or team member?
We wouldn’t need to train to 'be more compassionate' or to 'be more resilient' or need treatment for compassion fatigue. There would be less burnout.
After all, the people we are talking about are already incredibly resilient and caring, otherwise they wouldn’t be doing the jobs they are doing.

What we do
We act as a catalyst for you to discover your innate wisdom, peace of mind and clarity
We listen, we coach, we mentor.
The FIRE programme starts with a free initial consultation to understand your challenges, and what you would like to change. We give you an understanding of the programme so that you can consider whether we are a good fit for you.
If you decide to go ahead with us, we tailor the programme to suit you.
Start To Feed Your Phoenix
The first stage is to build connections: we take time to listen to you. We need to understand your challenges and establish your desired outcomes.
We get a sense of where you are now, what would be most helpful to you, and plan the next stage.
We will offer resources to help you deepen your understanding during the programme.
Introducing the FIRE Programme
The programme looks at the power of true listening, and explores state of mind, the power of our thoughts, and how we treat our thinking.
We will discuss how this relates to the challenges we face and how we experience our lives, and look for fresh perspectives.
With more awareness of the choices we have, we find a freedom from the burdens we carry and understand how we can access the power of our innate wisdom in any situation.
Whilst the programme is flexible and will be designed in a bespoke way to suit each person or team, it follows a core path:
Freedom from self-judgement, triggers, labels, self-limiting beliefs, uncomfortable thought patterns and the impact of past experiences.
What is true deep listening, and how is it key to freedom? Speak freely without interruption and be listened to free of judgment. Feel the power of listening to others.
What is the inside-out understanding and what is the role of thought? How does our relationship with thought hold the power to finding freedom?
Be free from the weight of the past, and for predicting or controlling the future. Know how forgiving is a gift of freedom from hurts.
Let go of the burden of ‘fixing’ yourself or others. Be free of techniques, 'working on yourself', analysing and processing the past.
Be confident in your own integrity, authenticity and wisdom.
Learn how to navigate difficulties with more ease and peace of mind.
Recognise the feeling of your innate wisdom and trust it to guide you in line with your core values. Know that you can access it in any situation, in the moment, and that it is infinite.
Develop awareness of your own peace of mind and how it is always available to you, no matter where you are, what you are doing, or who you are with.
Discover your clarity, and how the quality of your own clarity powers creativity, innovation, decision making, efficiency and connected relationships at work and home, even when life throws obstacles in your way.
Emerge from the embers of your old ways of being and see opportunity and choice.
Feed the Phoenix of your soul, rediscover what’s important to you, what you love doing, who you love being with.
Discover the delights of childlike curiosity, living in the moment, and being present with people you work with and live life with.
Understand what 'being in the zone' is and how we recognise it, access it and use it to perform at our best
Recognise and treasure the thoughts that come from your wisdom; these are gifts of innovation and creativity
Find your own power.
Understand that you have choice in any situation, and unlimited options for action.
See that innate resilience and wellbeing come from peace of mind, are infinite and universally available to everyone.
Honour your peace within and feel empowered to show up authentically and unencumbered with all your uniqueness and grace.
Find your true voice and know when to speak up, and when to be quiet. Know that if you're not being heard, the time isn't right yet.
As you empower yourself, without ego, those around you become empowered too.
“It's a gift, it is enlightening, and it is simple. I would highly recommend Jocelyn to anyone struggling with anxiety, depression or low mood, feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or burnt-out, whether due to the nature of their job or otherwise.”

"Jos coaches at a phenomenal level. Her ability to transform behaviour through helping the coachee to understand how their thinking affects their lives places her, in my opinion, as an outstanding coach and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her as a coach to anyone who wants to live a more fulfilled, happy, and peaceful life."

Follow Up
After the end of the programme, we arrange to check in with you to find out what new perspectives you have, what impact FIRE has had on the challenges you faced previously, and what has changed for you.
This session can also be used for further mentoring if you have a new challenge or want to understand something more deeply.
"What Jocelyn is very good at is creating a safe space, and it’s very impactful. I feel seen, I feel heard, I feel safe and open to hearing new things. Regardless of being on Zoom, I always feel very open and connected, and that’s a very beautiful spot. I’ve never really experienced that before.
I would recommend Jocelyn to people who have experienced structural or institutional hurts and harms whatever that may be. She doesn’t mess around with different levels of build-up, just straight to the point, with a forwardness, a directness, that is still gentle and understanding and compassionate. That’s what allows me to feel seen in a loved and direct way."

I’ve been a veterinary surgeon since 1996, working mostly in mixed practice until I set up my own small animal practice in 2004. I was frustrated with the impossible working conditions I had experienced since graduating and wanted to build a better place for people to work, offering a great service to clients and good clinical standards. The clients were an absolute joy, we built an outstanding team, invested in new tech and training, and loved developing new services.
Over the years, as we grew and got busier and busier, I struggled at times with my mental health. I had a good dose of imposter syndrome, two of my friends died by suicide, and I was taking on emotional responsibility for clinical situations, our team of people, and our clients in a way that I didn’t realise was unnecessary. I had no clue of the long-term impact it was having on my brain and body, nor that it was optional. Usually for me, the solution to hard times was to work harder.
Eventually, I ran out of steam. I reached out for help, and found this different understanding. I returned to the practice a different person, with more peace and clarity. A year later, the practice was far exceeding all our forecasts and the industry standards for independent practices.
In 2018, out of the blue, with absolute clarity in a moment of calm, I knew I wanted to sell up. I decided to train further in the understanding that changed my life. My particular interest is in burnout, compassion, and compassion fatigue, especially in caring and clinical professions, first responders, business leaders and managers of teams. There is a mental health crisis in these sectors, and significant effort is being made on many fronts to try to improve the situation.
I don’t know what the solution to all of this is, but I do know that far too many wonderful, passionate, dedicated, caring people are suffering, and I would like to be of service to them and do whatever I can to help this change. I want to provide choice for people like me. I know this different understanding works, and it has worked for many thousands of other people in all walks of life.
I love listening to people, no matter what problems they bring to a session. It’s an honour to be with them as they discover their solutions, find new perspectives, peace, joy, and put down burdens they didn’t know they carried. I learn so much, and it’s fun!
